This home study course is a practical ‘how-to’ guide to using counselling and guidance skills. Many people who are not professional counsellors find themselves called upon to provide counselling, help and guidance, and this course is designed to give you the skills and knowledge to fill this role confidently.
In four informative modules, the course provides a clear introduction to the skills involved. It will show you exactly what helping others entails and what personal qualities are needed. Whether you want to develop counselling skills for use in your current job or would like to go on to further study this is the course for you. The course includes 60 hours of study.
Study topics include: active listening; interpreting body language; beginnings and endings; the ethics of helping. You will be asked to complete a wide range of activities during the course, which will help you to put what you have learned into practice.
