Course Profile: RHS Level 2 Principles of Horticulture

The RHS Level 2 Principles of Horticulture qualification is one of the most widely recognised and well-regarded qualifications in the horticulture industry. The level 2 certificate has a long history and is much sought after by both employees and clients. It is also a good foundation for those wishing to pursue advanced level study in Garden Design, Plant Propagation or related areas.

The Level 2 certificate has also long been a favourite of keen amateur gardeners who would like to be able to apply professional-level knowledge to their work in the garden.

Redeveloped in 2010, the Level 2 Principles of Horticulture is now part of the new National Qualifications Framework. This means that it can also easily be used as part of your entry requirements for higher education courses, if you would like to go on to further study.

The new Principles of Horticulture syllabus is divided into two parts:

Level 2 Principles of Garden Planning, Establishment and Maintenance

and

Level 2 Principles of Plant Growth, Propagation and Development.

Students can also choose to study just one of these parts in a short course, if they would like to specialise in one of these areas.

Borders UK offers courses for students preparing for both the full RHS Level 2 and the short certificates:

Level 2 Principles of Horticulture – a flexible 12 module course. On average students take 12 – 18 months to complete this course. If you are considering a career in horticulture or would like to pursue further study in this area, this is the course we would recommend.

Level 2 Principles of Garden Planning, Establishment and Maintenance – a flexible 6 module course for students who would like to specialise in garden planning and establishment. An ideal starting point for students who have a special interest in Garden Design, and also an excellent course for students who would like to know how to design their own garden at a professional level.

Level 2 Principles of Plant Growth, Propagation and Development – A flexible 6 module course for students who would like to learn more about plant health and propagation. Ideal if you wish to specialise in plant health care or propagation, and also a great introduction to these areas if you wish to go on to higher level study.

Borders UK is an accredited training provider so you can be sure that your learning experience will be of the highest quality.
